Seed and clear demo data

Load a realistic, end-to-end dataset to evaluate Erde, then remove it when you are done. The demo data spans four environmental sites with projects, samples, lab analyses, results, and field monitoring, so you can explore every area without entering your own records first.

Before you start
  • Role required: the Administrator role.
  • Prerequisites: load the reference-data defaults first. See Manage reference data. Seeding fails if you skip this.

You manage both actions from one page: Administration → Demo Data (/admin/demo-data).

Seed demo data

Seeding is additive and runs once. It creates demo records alongside any data you already have; it does not overwrite or modify your records. If demo data is already present, seeding stops with a conflict message and asks you to clear it before re-seeding.

  1. Go to Administration → Demo Data.
  2. Select Seed Demo Data.
  3. In the Confirm Seed Demo Data dialog, review the list of records to be created, then select Seed Demo Data.
  4. Wait for the run to finish. When it completes, the page shows Demo Data Seeded Successfully with a per-type count of the records created.

The seed builds a connected dataset, including:

  • Four sites (Superfund, Leaking Underground Storage Tank, Department of Defense / per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and Brownfield) with site areas and boundaries
  • Monitoring Locations with coordinates
  • Projects with Data Management Plans (DMPs) and tasks
  • Regulatory Screening Programs assigned to projects
  • Wells, Boreholes, Sediment Cores, and Test Pits with construction and lithology details
  • Water Levels, Well Purges, Field Parameter sessions, and continuous logger streams
  • Samples across quarterly rounds with quality-control records
  • Lab Reports, Lab Analyses, and Lab Results showing time-series trends
  • Demo Imports you can open to see the import pipeline

The seed also inserts demo Analytes and Screening Programs into your shared lookups. Clearing demo data removes these again. Reference-data defaults you loaded yourself are never touched.

Clear demo data

Clearing removes every demo record — the four sites, their projects, samples, lab results, field monitoring, and the demo imports — along with the demo Analytes and Screening Programs the seed added. Your reference-data defaults and any records you created yourself are not affected.

danger

Clearing demo data permanently deletes all seeded records. This cannot be undone. Do not run it on a database that holds records you want to keep.

  1. Go to Administration → Demo Data.
  2. Select Clear Demo Data.
  3. In the Confirm Clear Demo Data dialog, confirm you want to proceed, then select Clear All Demo Data.
  4. Wait for the run to finish. When it completes, a success message confirms the demo data was cleared.
