Manage location aliases

A Location often goes by more than one name: a regulatory ID assigned by an agency, a historical name from earlier work, or an identifier used in another system. Record these alternate names as aliases so the Location stays findable under any of them. Aliases live on the Location's Aliases tab.

Before you start
  • Permission: You need permission to add data to the Site that owns the Location. Editing or deleting an alias needs permission to edit that Site's data.
  • Prerequisites: The Location must exist — see Add a location and its field artifact.

Steps

  1. Go to Data Management → Sites → {your Site} → Locations → {your Location}, then select the Aliases tab.

  2. Select Add Alias. The alias form opens.

  3. Enter the fields:

    FieldRequiredWhat to enter
TypeYesThe kind of alias — see the table below
    AliasYesThe alternate identifier or name
  4. Select Add. The alias appears in the list.
