Manage location coordinates
A Location carries a history of coordinate measurements rather than a single fixed point, so re-surveys accumulate over time. One measurement can be flagged as the primary spatial value and one as the primary elevation value — those are what the rest of Erde uses to place the Location. You manage them on the Location's Coordinates tab.
- Permission: You need permission to add or edit data on the Site that owns the Location. Editing or deleting an existing measurement requires edit access.
- Prerequisites: The Location must exist — see Add a location and its field artifact.
Steps
-
Go to Data Management → Sites →
{your Site}→ Locations →{your Location}, then select the Coordinates tab. -
Select Add. The Add Coordinate dialog opens.
-
Enter the measurement. Provide a coordinate, an elevation, or both — at least one is required:
Field Required What to enter Measurement Status Yes Defaults to Measured; also Planned, Estimated, or Verified Coordinate X, Coordinate Y, Coordinate System Conditional The horizontal position; the X/Y pair is required unless you provide an elevation. The coordinate system fills from the Site's default — pick one only if the Site has no default. Elevation + Elevation Unit Conditional The vertical position; required unless you provide a coordinate Horizontal Accuracy + Horizontal Accuracy Unit No Survey accuracy of the coordinate Vertical Accuracy + Vertical Accuracy Unit No Survey accuracy of the elevation Primary Spatial No Make this the Location's primary coordinate (requires a coordinate) Primary Elevation No Make this the Location's primary elevation (requires an elevation) Collection Method No How it was measured — for example GPS, Survey, or RTK GPS Measurement Date No When it was measured; a future date is allowed only when the status is Planned Measured By No Who took the measurement Notes No Optional notes -
Select Save. The measurement appears in the list.
Result
The Coordinates tab lists every measurement with its status, position, accuracy, method, date, and the Primary Spatial and Primary Elevation flags. The flagged primary values drive where the Location appears on maps and in spatial exports. Edit or delete any measurement from its row menu.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Saving reports a coordinate or elevation is required | The measurement has neither a coordinate nor an elevation | Enter at least one of the two |
| Cannot set Primary Spatial / Primary Elevation | The measurement has no coordinate / no elevation to make primary | Add the missing value, or set the primary on a measurement that has it |
| Saving rejects a future Measurement Date | Future dates are allowed only for the Planned status | Set the status to Planned, or use a past or present date |
